Fortune Cookie Soap Box – Summer 2015

Fortune Cookie Soap is a small store based in the US which sells hand-made bath & products. You can kind of compare their products to Lush. The scents of their products are very unique and special. Fortune Cookie Soap is known for their Fortune Cookie shaped soaps, which are all specially decorated. They also have a seasonal subscription for a Soap Box with their very own themes. Examples of previous Soap Box themes include A Nightmare Before Christmas, Alice in Wonderland and The Wizard of Oz. The theme of this Summer Soap Box collection is named “Straight on Till Morning”, inspired by Peter Pan, which is mostly known by the Disney movie from 1953. This box contains eight products in total, three full-sized and five miniature sized.

Second Star to the Right – Fortune Cookie Soap scent is described as “Crushed berries and mint leaves with a splash of sparkling pomelo, served over iced sugarcane.”  To me it smells really fruity and fresh. There is a beautiful swirl of colours which remind me of the galaxy. There are tiny sparkles, silver hexagon glitters and holographic bar glitters mixed with the colours. Inside the soap is a small fortune, mine says “Girls are much too clever to fall from their carriages. This is a full-sized product. I love Fortune Cookie Soaps, I like to use it as decoration. I collect and keep them on a bowl in the living room. Of course you can also use them as a soap to keep next to the sink or for showering.

Tink! – OCD Hand Sanitizer is another popular product of Fortune Cookie Soap. The scent is described as “Fresh Cherries in cream, sprinkled with toasted coconut and a fairy dusting powder sugar”. I love this scent, you mostly smell the sweet cherries and a slight hint of coconut. To me this smells very candy-like and yummy.

The hand sanitizer has a yellow marker type of colour with fine glitter which leaves a very very subtle sparkle on your hands. This product is an anti-bacterial type of hand sanitizer, you don’t need any water to use this. This is a full-sized product for traveling however, you can also buy a bigger size with a pump. Usually these type of hand sanitizers feel feel drying to the skin. However, the OCD Hand Sanitizers from Fortune Cookie Soap are very moisturizing. I always keep one in my hand bag.

Lost Boys – Whipped Cream scent is described as “Golden apricot muddled with fresh white peaches”. This scent reminds me more of sweet and zingy citrus fruits and smells very strongly. It’s not my type of scent but if you like vibrant fruite smells, you will love this. You get a mini-sized product inside the box. For some reason, I’ve forgotten to take a photo of this product by itself, sorry about that!

The jar is completely filled to the rim. The whipped cream has a light pastal violet colour. The Fortune Cookie Soap Whipped Cream is one of my favorite types of bodycreams. It immediately blends into the skin and makes the skin very soft and moisturized.

Mermaid Lagoon – Two Phase Perfume Oil scent is described as “A bright, summery blend of peaches, apricots and nectarines topped with shaved coconut and iced vanilla bean.” This is my favorite scent of this collection. At the beginning, you can really smell the coconut and vanilla bean, after it sits on the skin for a while, it transforms into a light, sweet and fruity smell. This is a miniature sized product. The perfume consists of two fluid phases, one is green and the other is colourless. You have to shake the bottle before use. Be careful not to spray this immediately onto your clothes, since it might stain.

Kiss – Lip Balm scent is described as “Exotic watermelon, juicy pineapple and coconut water, bursting with fresh citrus juices.” It indeed smells very exotic like an exotic fruits smoothie. It has a light pink colour however, I don’t see any colour transferred to my lips. When applying, it leaves a fairly thick layer and feels very soft and moisturizing. This is a miniature sized product.

The Boy Who Never Grew Up – Salt Scrub scent is described as “Tropical margharita – served with a salted rim.” To be honest, I don’t really small anything compared to the other products. All I can smell is a really faint light fresh scent that I can’t place, maybe because I don’t know how margharitas smell like?

The scrub has a light minty green colour. There are some really big chunks of salt in this scrub. This is probably a real heavy-duty scrub, I haven’t used it in the shower yet but I like scrubs like these. I wouldn’t recommend it if you have a sensitive skin though. This is a miniature sized product.

Wendy Bird – Veggie Protein Deodorant is a new product of Fortune Cookie Soap (I think). The scent is described as “Bright, green apple with a balmy, tropical twist”. Due to the green apple, the deodorant really smells light, fresh and clean.

The deodorant is in a stick form, which you can twist up. The product itself has a beautiful light blue colour. The deodorant has a aluminum-free formula, which contains grapefruit seed extract and has natural, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties. When applying this deodorant, it feels a bit “sticky”, in a good way. It really leaves my armpits feeling clean and dry throughout the day, I really love this product. You get a miniature sized product in this box.

The Captain – Steam Me Up Scotty! scent is described as “Dewy Magnolias and wild berries drenched with fresh cream”. This is the only scent in the collection that has a hint of flowers, which I really like. To me this smells really soothing and romantic.

This is a full sized product however, if you order this from the FCS website, you get three of these. You use this product by removing the wrapper and placing it in a corner of your shower. The steam made during the shower, releases the scent of this steam cube. For me, it lasts about 2-3 shower sessions.

I’m always very excited to receive this box. The Fortune Cookie Soap, OCD Hand Sanitizer and Whipped Cream are standard items that you receive in the Fortune Cookie Soap box. The other items are variable. I always love how they put so much effort and love in their products. Even though some scents are not my cup of tea, I have never been disappointed in anything that they have made. What I also love is that they make several different products using the scents of this collection. So for example, if you really love the scent of Wendy Bird, you can also get a Fortune Cookie Soap, Hand Sanitizer etc. in this scent. Amazing right? The seasonal collections are limited edition though, so you can only get them for a certain period. After they’re gone, you might still be able to get a certain scent when they have a CYO event (which will be explained some other time).

Unfortunately, this Fortune Cookie Soap Box is already sold out, since they only make a limited amount of boxes for their subscribers. You can however subscribe for the Fall Fortune Cookie Soap Box at the Fortune Cookie Soap Website. It is not very cheap though, since shipping to the Netherlands is rather expensive, the subscription costs $35 USD per box (check xe.com for the current price in Euro’s). You also have to pay by credit card. I don’t mind paying that price though, since I always use all the products in the boxes and is only available once every three months. I’ve had other subscription boxes before with contained beauty products, which I mostly did not use and give away or had to trade off. I’m a huge fan and I’m already excited for the next box.

Have you ever tried any Fortune Cookie Soap Products before?

Cheers,

Lariesa
