Maria Nila Dry Shampoo Review

Maria Nila is a hair care brand from Sweden that offers 100% Vegan and Cruelty Free-Certified products. The brand has a broad product range, from Hair Care products like Shampoos, Conditioners etc. to Colour Care and Styling. Each of their Styling products are also colour-preserving, so perfect for coloured hair like mine. From that category, I received the Maria Nila Dry Shampoo, which I’m going to review for you today.

The Maria Nila Dry Shampoo is a powder spray that is supposed to instantly fresh up greasy hair while giving some extra hold and volume. The product is Sulphate and Paraben-free and has a Colour Guard Complex, protecting the hair against UV-rays.

The full ingredients list is as follows: Butane, Alcohol Denat., Isobutane, Propane, Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, Solanum Tuberosum (Potato) Starch, Silica, Parfum.

The spray can is pressurized and contains ingredients that are flammable, so it is unfortunately not allowed to bring this product in an airplane and needs to be kept away from heat.

There is no instruction manual on the packaging, but I’ve learned from a professional how to exactly use the Maria Nila Dry Shampoo. You need to shake first and hold the spray really close to the application area (I would say 5 to 10 cm) and run your fingers trough that area after spraying. The picture above shows my hair (styled with a flat iron) after two or three days without washing, before and after using the product.

Since the ingredient that absorbs the oils is Potato Starch, the product does give off a white cast but can easily be faded by running my fingers through my hair. Using that method also gives tons of extra volume, because the product also makes your hair on the applied areas feel stiffer/coarse, holding extra volume in place.

I really like the Maria Nila Dry Shampoo! My hair looks so voluminous after using the product. It doesn’t make my hair feel “freshly washed” since the product makes your hair feel stiff and coarse at the roots but it still feels nice and refreshing. The scent is also pleasantly fresh but I think most of the Dry Shampoos smell this way. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who loves to use Dry Shampoos that also give volume.

The Maria Nila Dry Shampoo is available for €12,25 for 100 mL and €20,75 for 250 mL at a variety of webstores HairLabs.nl and selected Hair Salons (prices vary per salon).
