Essence has collaborated with four bloggers to create the limited edition bloggers’ beauty secrets collection, including “our own” Serena Verbon from Beautylab.nl. Together with Essence, she has created the The Glow Must Go On Palette and the Shine Bright Nail Polish. I have received them both and will be happily showing you these products today.
Before I will start with the review, I want to tell you a bit about the blogger behind these products, Serena Verbon. She is the owner of the blog Beautylab.nl, and I have been a follower for many, many years. I still read her blog every day and have been fortunate to have met her a few times through the years. I feel connected to her because like me, she is an “Indo” and loves beauty, cats, food and has the same educational background as me (Molecular Biology/Research). It’s like I have a long lost sister. She’s such a sweetheart in person and I truly look up to her. She’s smart, inspirational, beautiful inside and out, hard working, independent and driven. I’m so proud of her for all the accomplishments that she has reached and I’m sure that there are many that will follow. That said, I might be a bit biased for this review. But I know that Serena has put her heart and soul in this collaboration with Essence, I’m sure that everything she touches will be awesome.
Essence The Glow Must Go On Palette
Let’s start with the star of the show, the Essence The Glow Must Go On Palette. I got most of the information about this palette from what Serena has told in her Youtube Video. The name of the palette, shown on top was inspired by the Queen song “The Show Must Go On”. The design of the palette was inspired by Henna Tattoos.
The Essence The Glow Must Go On Palette consists of three warm bronzer shades and two eyeshadow shades, which can also be combined with the bronzer for your eyes. There’s also a highlighter shade for a more glowy effect, which can also be used on your eyes but also on the rest of your face. You also get a brush which you can use for the bronzer or highlighter. These warm shades are inspired by the Spice Market that you often see in Asian countries. The palette is nicely compact, made of sturdy cardboard and has a magnetic closure.
There’s a plastic mirror on the top part and the Henna-like design nicely fits the theme. Next to the mirror on the right corner, it has Serena’s handwriting. There are also small stars all over the palette, a shape that Serena really likes (as I do too). Aside from all the neutral and brown shades, the palette also has turquoise blue details, which is the same shade as her Shine Bright Nail Polish.
The bronzer, eyeshadow and highlighter shades are nicely divided in their individual pans. All the names are also made up by Serena herself. She wanted to create a palette that could be used for different skintones. You get a lot of product in this palette, all the pans are nicely sized, especially the bronzer, which the three shades can be used separately or combined to create a healthy glow.
Here are the swatches from left to right of the Sandalwood Eyeshadow, Cinnamon Eyeshadow and the Honey Glow Highlighter. The eyeshadows are matte and feel very finely milled. The Sandalwood Eyeshadow is a warm, chocolate brown shade and is pigmented. The Cinnamon Eyeshadow is a warm, peachy shade that can be perfectly used as a transition shade. The pigmentation of this shade is a bit less compared to the other shade but still ok. The Holey Glow Highlighter feels super soft and is highly pigmented giving a frosty and metallic looking glow. On my skintone, it is very pale and white and gives an almost duochrome yellow gold shine. I was afraid that this shade would turn grey-ish because of my skin tone but it actually looks very good on my skin.
Here are the three individual Glowing Bronzer shades from darkest to lightest and all the shades mixed. These bronzers have a copper, bronze and rose gold shade. They also feel super soft and are extremely pigmented. These can be used on your cheeks but also as an eyeshadow. They finish is super metallic and foiled looking. Don’t worry about your cheeks looking like a metallic beacon because you can easily build up the bronzer and is easily blendable.
For this eyelook, I used the Cinnamon Eyeshadow as a transition shade and on my bottom lid, the Sandalwood Eyeshadow in my crease and the outer part of my bottom lid, a combination of the darkest two shades of the Glowing Bronzer on my upper lid and the inner part of my bottom lid and the lighest shade of the Glowing Bronzer as an inner corner highlight. I really love using the Glowing Bronzer in combination with the eyeshadows. The look turned out amazing and everything is easily blendable but stay nicely pigmented.
I also used a mix of all three shades of the Glowing Bronzer on the top of my cheeks and the Honey Glow Highlighter on my cheekbones, tip of my nose and cupids bow. All the products make a very cohesive, bronzed and glowy look. This is also one of my favorite make-up styles I like to do on myself on a daily basis, so I’m very happy with this palette. For me, this is a great palette for every day that I would also happily bright for traveling because can create a complete look only using this palette.
Essence Shine Bright Nail Polish
The other product that Serena has created in collaboration with Essence is the Shine Bright Nail Polish. The bottle contains 8mL of product and has a sticker on the cap that has the same style and Serena‘s handwriting.
Essence Shine Bright is a turquoise shade nail polish with a cream finish. This shade is perfect for summer. I love shades like this one and the formula is amazing. It has a thin consistency but is super pigmented. Two thin coats is enough for this shade to be fully opaque. You can immediately add the second coat after applying the first one but it does take about 5 minutes to dry.
I really love both Essence The Glow Must Go On Palette and the Shine Bright Nail Polish. I think Serena has done a great job with these products. I’m usually not a drugstore type of person but if you look at the quality of the products and packaging, it’s mindblowing how amazing these products are for the price range and this makes me very curious about the products of the other three bloggers.
The Essence The Glow Must Go On Palette, the Shine Bright Nail Polish and the other products of the Essence Trend Edition Bloggers’ Beauty Secrets are available on the 30th of May at selected Kruidvat and Trekpleister stores for a limited time. The suggested retail price of the palettes are €4,99 Euro and for the nail polishes €1,89 Euro. I would definitely check them out because you cannot go wrong with prices like these.
