Benefit Cosmetics has launched two new products, which are the They’re Real! Double the Lip and the Duo Eyeshadow Blender. You can also try out several shades of these new products in a kit. These kits are the They’re Real! Big Sexy Eye and Lip Kit. I’m going to show you both of these kits in this post.
The new products are part of the Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! collection. Other products in the collection are the They’re Real! Mascara, Tinted Primer, Push-up Liner and Remover.
I’m going to start off with the Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Big Sexy Eye Kit. The kit comes in a metallic silver, cardboard box and has orange details like all the other products in the They’re Real! collection. The back of the box shows a picture of the contents of the kit. The size of the products in the picture are smaller compared to the products inside.
The kit itself comes in a sturdy, tin box with the same design. I love that the box is made of tin instead of plastic. It’s different compared to what brands normally do, just what I would expect from Benefit Cosmetics.
The Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Big Sexy Eye Kit contains three They’re Real! Duo Eyeshadow Blender shades of eight that were launched. The shades in the kit are Beyond Nude, Naughty Neutral and Bombshell Brown. Each shadow weighs 3,5 grams, which is the same weight of the available individuals so the eyeshadows in the kit are fullsize. The kit also contains a mirror and ShadowBlender applicator.
The ShadowBlender applicator is a soft, fluffy sponge applicator that you use to apply the eyeshadow. It’s supposed to apply two shades in one step. As you can see in the picture, it grabs the eyeshadow very well in only one swipe. The shape of the applicator should fit the eye well but for my smaller, hooded eyes, it’s a bit too big. I did use this applicator for all the eyeshadow looks in this review.
Here are the swatches of the shades in the Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Big Sexy Eye Kit using the ShadowBlender. As you probably noticed already, each shade a lighter and darker color, as you would in an Eyeshadow Duo. Each eyeshadow feels very soft and finely milled. The shadows have a more softer finish than hard, pigmented finish which I think is supposed to be this way to be able to create an quick and easy natural look using the Eyeshadow Duo.
You can use the eyeshadows in two different ways, either apply them with the darker shade at the base of the upper lid and the lighter shade in the rest of the lid and the crease or the other way around. With my skintone and eyeshape, I prefer the other way around and will show you exactly that in the eyeshadow looks below.
Duo eyeshadow blender in Beyond Nude
The Benefit Cosmetics Duo Eyeshadow Blender in Beyond Nude has a light, champagne brown shade and a medium, neutral brown shade. I consider the brown shade to be medium and not dark since it almost matches my skintone. The shades work really well together and they’re perfect to create that easy, natural look.
I found it difficult to completely blend out the harsh lines on the outside part and the finishing details using the ShadowBlender, especially in the inner corners of the eye so I used a regular blending brush for the finishing touch. It probably would be easier to blend if the darker shade is on the bottom side though. The eyeshadow does blend nicely between the colors itself but when you use the darker shade on top, some extra blending is a must. You can probably get the same effect using your finger. I of course had to use a brush for the bottom part of my eye.
Duo eyeshadow blender in Naughty Neutral
The Benefit Cosmetics Duo Eyeshadow Blender in Naughty Neutral has a light, lavender pink shade and a medium, mauve shade. The shades create a very romantic and natural, girly look.
I had the same problems as I had with the previous shade. What is also noticeable to me which I havent mentioned is that the darker shade does not want to intensify and apply on top of the lighter shade. I wanted to deepen my outer 3rd using the darker shade but it just doesn’t want to go over the lighter shade. I don’t know if it’s because of the “softer” pigmentation or if it’s because the shades blend so well that you can’t see the increase of the darker shade.
Duo eyeshadow blender in Bombshell Brown
The Benefit Cosmetics Duo Eyeshadow Blender in Naughty Neutral has a light, mossy brown and a dark, chocolate brown shade. The lighter and darker shades have to most contrast between each other in comparison to the other two eyeshadows. I think this one is my favorite of the bunch.
Because of the contrast, I could deepen up the crease and make a much better contrast in comparison to the previous eyelooks. I also didn’t have any problems in putting the darker shade over the lighter. It worked very well so as you can see from the picture above, creating a darker outer 3rd was no problem. Even though the colors have more contrast, they still blended perfectly in each other. Like the other two shades, I had to use a brush to blend the outsides of the darker shade and put on the finishing touches.
To be honest, I think that the Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Big Sexy Eye Kit is nice for beginners but not interesting enough for more experienced make-up enthusiasts like myself. The two shades that match each other perfectly and ShadowBlender applicator also confirms this. I personally can pick any two shades in my make-up collection and make a perfect blended look as quickly when using this kit and applicator. This might not be the case for beginners so if you have problems with blending and finding the perfect eyeshadows for an everyday look, you should definitely check out the They’re real! Duo Eyeshadow Blender.
The Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Big Sexy Eye Kit is available for €38 Euro. A single Duo Eyeshadow Blender costs €26 Euro, so you actually get a great deal out of this kit, saving €40 Euro compared to buying these shades separately!
Now let’s talk about the Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Big Sexy Lip Kit. This kit has the exact same design als the Big Sexy Eye Kit. The back of the box also shows a picture of the contents of the kit. The size of the lipsticks in the picture are smaller compared to the products inside.
The Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Big Sexy Lip Kit contains four They’re Real! Double the Lip shades of eight that were launched. The shades in the kit are Flame Game, Pink Trills, Revved-up Red and Lusty Rose. You get 0,75 grams of product in each lipstick, which is half of the weight of the available individuals so the lipsticks in the kit are deluxe size.
As you can see in the picture, I have two different types of packaging. That is because I already owned two of the shades which were in the Kissy Missy Lip Kit. I gave my doubles away to a friend so that’s why I don’t have them in this picture. This means that the packaging of the lipsticks that you get in the Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Big Sexy Lip Kit are silver.
The They’re Real! Double the Lip are twist-up lipsticks that have a dark shade that functions as a liner and a light lipstick shade in one. You can use these by applying the dark shade on the outside lines of your lips to create a contour while the lighter shade brings the inside on your lips more forward, create an illusion of fuller-looking lips.
Here are the swatches of the shades in the Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Big Sexy Lip Kit. The darker color is applied on the left side and the lighter on the right. The difference between the two shades more clearly in Pink Thrills and Lusty Rose but it’s almost not noticeable in Flame Game and Revved-up Red. All lipsticks feel creamy and are unscented. I don’t feel a difference between the different shade or the lighter/darker parts. The formula is like any creamy lipstick so it will smudge and transfer but it lasts very well for a “regular” lipstick. Re-applying is still a must after eating a meal.
Just to quickly mention, I didn’t make new close-up swatches for the shades Pink Thrills and Revved-Up Red, since I’ve already reviewed them in a previous post. This was before my Holidays in Thailand so my skintone is much lighter compared to how it looks now, so you will see a slight difference in skintone color between the close-up swatches. I did make a new full-face picture, also using the eyeshadows in the They’re Real! Big Sexy Eye Kit.
Double the Lip in Flame Game
Flame Game is a Orange Red lipstick with a cream finish. Love this shade. I never liked oranges very much because they make your teeth look yellow but this shade looks so good! I definitely see me wearing this shade more often. It applies evenly and is nicely opaque.
For this look, I’m also wearing the Benefit Cosmetics Duo Eyeshadow Blender in Beyond Nude.
Double the Lip in Pink Thrills
Pink Thrills is a Soft Pink lipstick with a cream finish. You can definitely see the difference in the light and dark shades in this lipstick. The shade is so cute, I feel like a doll wearing this and it’s also a beautiful shade for Valentines Day.
For this look, I’m also wearing the Benefit Cosmetics Duo Eyeshadow Blender in Naughty Neutral.
Double the Lip in Revved-up Red
Revved-up Red is a Coral Red lipstick with a cream finish. The lipstick is not fully opaque, which you can see in the close-up watch but I could build this up to full coverage as you can see in the full face pictures. I also think that this shade is very lovely and girly. I think this would probably be a great option for people who want to try out a red lip for the first time, since it isn’t as harsh as a true red lipstick.
For this look, I’m also wearing the Benefit Cosmetics Duo Eyeshadow Blender in Bombshell Brown.
Double the Lip in Lusty Rose
Lusty Rose is a Nude Pink lipstick with a cream finish. This shade is so beautiful and is probably a perfect nude shade for lighter skintones. I thought that this shade would look a bit more brown but it actually enhances my already pink, pigmented lips, which I love. It’s a really great everyday shade.
For this look, I’m also wearing the Benefit Cosmetics Duo Eyeshadow Blender in Beyond Nude.
The Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Big Sexy Lip Kit is again, a good kit for beginners but I have to say that this would be interesting for people who love lipsticks like I do. The formula and available shades are great and it’s easy to quickly apply two colors in one. I do think that it gives an illusion of fuller looking lips and I’m definitely interested myself in the other shades.
The Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Big Sexy Lip Kit is available for €32 Euro. A single Double The Lip costs €22 Euro, so you get a great deal out of this kit too, saving a whopping €56 Euro compared to buying these shades separately but be aware that you get half of the product weight in the kit compared to the fullsize product.
To summarize, Benefit Cosmetics They’re Real! Big Sexy Eye and Lip Kit are available for €38 Euro and €32 Euro respectively at Douglas.nl and selected Douglas stores.
