Bobbi Brown is a high end make-up brand that focuses on the features that you already have, like enhancing your skin instead of covering or in other words, “be who you are”. I’ve visited the Bobbi Brown counter at The Bijenkorf and got a full Bobbi Brown treatment. I’m going to tell you all about the treatment products used in this post.
Before going into the treatment, let’s talk a bit about Bobbi Brown first. Bobbi is an American makeup artist and the founder of the brand. Together with a chemist, she released a line of new lipsticks under the brand Bobbi Brown Essentials. Her make-up line was a success and the brand was later purchased by Estée Lauder in 1995. Like I’ve mentioned before, Bobbi Brown focuses on enhancing beauty instead of covering, which is definitely seen in the brand’s credo:
“At Bobbi Brown, we see Beauty. We see confidence. We believe a woman is most beautiful when she looks and feels like herself. You just need a few minutes, the right tools and a little know-how. The secret to beauty is simple: Be who you are.”
For enhancing the skin and applying make-up, there needs to be a good base in place. Bobbi Brown offers a huge variety of skin-care products with high quality ingredients for each type of skin and problems like very dry to oily skin and redness.
What I also love about the Bobbi Brown counter is that they have a variety of simple how to’s which the make-up artists demonstrate (for free!) for you to be able to apply the skincare and make-up in an easy and quick way. The brand also has a few books that show and explain their basics and other details.
Of course, Bobbi Brown does not only have a variety of skincare, there’s also a huge variety of make-up and tools. The brand also launches Limited Edition collections about every three to four months, their Holiday Collections being my personal favorite. I have reviewed on of their products before, which you can check out here.
I visited Bobbi Brown in The Bijenkorf Amsterdam and received a full brow treatment by Sevda, the Brow Specialist. Currently, she is the only Bobbi Brown Brow Specialist in The Netherlands that plucks the brows by threading. The first picture is before she did my brows. My apologies of the different lighting by the way, I forgot to take an after picture at the same spot! She did an amazing job in perfecting my brows and most important, showed me how I should shape my brows myself using their brow products. I always struggled with my brows and finally understood how to shape them correctly after her showing me how to. You can also get a Brow Treatment by her by making an appointment at the Bobbi Brown counter in The Bijenkorf Amsterdam.
Unfortunately, there was a mix-up with the appointment so I couldn’t get my make-up done as well. Instead, I went to The Bijenkorf The Hague where I live close by and got a
“Get My Best Day Look” by Laura (she’s actually on the picture above at the back of the booth, the girl with the ponytail 🙂 ). She created a signature Bobbi Brown make-up Look, making me look my best, enhancing my features.
I have struggles with redness an my skin is very dry on its own, which causes foundation and other make-up to not adhere well and flake when not using any moisturizing products. To prep my skin, Laura first cleansed my skin using the Soothing Cleansing Oil and Extra Treatment Lotion. For serum, she applied the Extra Repair Nourishing Milk and the Skin Moisture Solution – Intense Rehydration Compound for an extra boost in hydration. For my eyes, she used the Extra Eye Repair Cream. For moisturizer, she used the Vitamin Enriched Face Base, which also functions as a primer.
After the base was done, it was time to color correct. To hide the dark areas underneath my eyes, she used the Corrector in Peach and on top, the Creamy Concealer in Warm Beige. For foundation, she used Skin Foundation Stick in Natural in a light way to give it a sheer finish. It is possible to build up the coverage to your own taste.
Then for eyes, she used the Perfectly Defined Long-Wear Brow Pencil in Espresso on my eyebrows, the Long-wear Cream Shadow Stick in Pink Sparkle all over the lid, the Long-wear Cream Shadow Stick in Heather Steel and Sparkle EyeShadow in Ballet Pink on the bottom lid, the Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink on the upper lash line and finally, the Smokey Eye Mascara and No Smudge Mascara on my top lashes. Looking at the description, it looks like she has used a lot of products on my eyes while it was actually very quick and easy. The cream shadow sticks are very effortless to use and are perfect to use for a day-to-day look.
To finish, Laura used the Bronzing Powder in Golden Light to warm up my face and give it a bit more shape in a very subtle way. For blush, she used the Blush in Rose and the Shimmer Brick Compact in Bronze to highlight. She didn’t use a setting or finishing powder since I like my skin to have a dewy finish. Finally for my lips, she used the Lip Color in Tulle and Extra Lip TInt in Bare.
.
I love how my look turned out. It looks very natural and still like me. Maybe for a lot of people who are nowadays used to “Instagram Make-up”, it doesn’t look like much, which is just what you would want. Just look at how my skin looked at the before picture. My skin looks like I had the best beauty sleep in my entire life, it really looks like real skin instead of having foundation on. This is also what I personally prefer in make-up. Especially during weekdays, I like to make my skin look as natural and radiant as possible.
Laura was also amazing in explaining everything. When picking foundation, lip and blush colors, we looked together and compared swatches to see what would fit best on my skin. She explained how I should pick out those colors and why, like matching the blush color to my natural lip color. I’ve really learned a lot from both Sevda and Laura so thank you both so much!
You can also get your make-up done at any Bobbi Brown counter, which does costs you €75 Euro however, you also get to spend the same amount on their products! So this means if you were planning to get some products already, you basically can get your make-up done for free! You also receive a Face Chart after the make-up application, so you can exactly know which products and tools were used.
I really hope that I was able to show you what the possibilities are at a Bobbi Brown counter. If you have any questions in how to apply certain products or skin issues, definitely go and check out one of the Bobbi Brown counters. The simple How To’s displayed in the stores are for free, which are already very informative!
