Using a Lip Pencil is a very great product to wear underneath your lipstick. It makes lipstick even look more opaque and last longer. It also makes cleaner edges and prevent lipsticks to bleed in fine lines. You can also wear a lip pencil on its own, or change the color of your lipstick, depending on which shade you choose. MAC Cosmetics has an amazing variety of lip pencils, having over 40 different shades available. One of the most popular shades at the moment is MAC Soar, which I’m going to review for you today.
MAC Soar is a part of the regular MAC Lip Pencil range. It has a typical, simplistic MAC design and contains 1.45 grams of product. The shade of the lip pencil is shown on the back side.
The MAC lip pencils are wooden, so you can use a make-up pencil sharpener to get a nice, pointy tip before application.
The shade of MAC Soar is described as a “Mid-tone Pink-ish Brown”. I would call it a Brown-ish Pink myself, because it looks more pink than brown. I’m personally not so fond of the MAC Lip Pencil Formula. I think it’s too hard for a lip pencil, I prefer the Pro Longwear formula much more, which is very soft and glides easily without any preparation. I do think that MAC Soar applies very evenly.
On my lips, MAC Soar changes its shade completely compared to the swatches on my hand. Now it matches the description perfectly, because now it does look like a Mid-tone Pink-ish Brown. Since Lip Pencils are applied with a very thin layer, the shade will change depending of the pigmentation of your lips.
I love how this shade look on me, very natural and it has a matte finish. It looks very even and makes my lips look perfect. For the application, I would definitely recommend using a lip primer or a lipbalm for a few minutes, and wiping it off before applying the lip pencil. This makes application more easy.
MAC Soar Lip Pencil is available for €15.50 in the MAC counters and on MAC Cosmetics.nl. It is sold out frequently, but I do find that these are better available at the counters than the website. So if you’re around one of the counters, just stop by and check, that’s how I got my hands on this one.
