Makeup Geek has collaborated with the sweet Youtuber Kathleen Lights to create the Limited Edition Makeup Geek x Kathleen Lights Highlighter Palette. These are also the very first highlighters released by the brand. I’m a huge fan of Makeup Geek and highlighters so I’m excited to review the palette for you today.
The Makeup Geek x Kathleen Lights Highlighter Palette comes with a white sleeve with embossed rose gold details that has Kathleen Lights name with stars around it. I really love how clean the sleeve looks, very Kathleen. The Palette itself is back with embossed rose gold stripes, which is the style of Makeup Geek, looking very much like the MannyMUA x Makeup Geek Eyeshadow Palette (review here).
The back of the sleeve is rose gold and has a beautiful picture of Kathleen. It has a small message from Kathleen about the palette, signed with her autograph. The back of the palette has the logo with the names of the individual highlighter shades.
The palette consists of three shades, Nightlight, Starlight and Sunlight. The highlighters are quite big, each pan contains 7 grams of product. To compare, a fullsize Becca compact highlighter contains 8 grams of product. The highlighters have the same Makeup Geek stripey artwork style pressed into the pans. I love details like this, it instantly makes the palette look extra luxurious.
Kathleen wanted to create a highlighter palette with wearable shades that suit every single skin tone. According to her, this palette should have shades that suit fair skin, medium skin to deeper skin tones. You can also mix the shades to create a custom shade. I have a light-to-medium skin tone so I usually don’t have a problem in finding a good shade.
Here are the swatches of Nightlight, Starlight and Sunlight. The formula of the highlighters are based on the Makeup Geek Foiled Eyeshadows, so the highlighters feels soft, unscented, have a very high reflective shine, are buildable and can blend well as the eyeshadows . A little goes a very long way, it’s very easy to grab too much of these highlighters so use a light hand for application.
Makeup Geek x Kathleen Lights Highlighter in Nightlight
Nightlight is a Light Gold shade. Kathleen wanted to add a shade like this because it’s a very universal highligher shade that will suit many skintones. I agree, it’s a beautiful shade for my skintone and I have seen girls with a light skin rocking this shade.
Makeup Geek x Kathleen Lights Highlighter in Starlight
Starlight is a Rosy Pink shade. This type of shade is Kathleens favorite to use as a highlighter, so she had to add this to the palette. This highlight looks more reflective compared to the other shades on my skintone. It’s really a beacon of light on my cheeks and it looks stunning. I think this would look amazing on fair skin tones too. Not sure how this shade would perform on a deeper skintone though.
Makeup Geek x Kathleen Lights Highlighter in Sunlight
Sunlight is a Soft Copper shade. Kathleen wanted to add a highlighter for girls who have a deeper skintone because many highlighters are too light and will turn ashy when applied. It also just works fine for my light-to-medium skintone when using a light hand. You can build the intensity which I would definitely recommend when you have a deeper skintone. This might not work for fair skintones but since these highlighters are based on the foiled eyeshadow formula, you can also easily use these for your eyes! So if this shade is too dark for you, just use it as a gorgeous copper eyeshadow.
Here’s an overview of all the highlighters and also a picture with no highlighter to compare. I did of course apply them very strong because highlighters are difficult to photograph. I like all the shades, my favorite is Starlight. It’s also the most intense one of the bunch on my face. I really love the formula of these highlighters. They stay intense throughout the day and are very easy to apply. I can’t wait to see which highlighter shades Makeup Geek will be releasing in the future.
The Limited Edition Makeup Geek x Kathleen Lights Highlighter Palette is available for €44.80 Euro at BeautyBay.com.
