Makeup Revolution Renaissance Palette Day

For this season, Makeup Revolution has launched the Renaissance collection, inspired by the Renaissance Era. This collection contains several products for the face, eyes and lips to create timeless, soft and romantic looks. I’ve received one product of the collection, the Makeup Revolution Renaissance Palette Day, an eyeshadow palette ideal for a simple, daytime eyelook.

The Makeup Revolution Renaissance Palette Day comes in a beige cardboard box with champagne gold details and a pouch. It was very interesting to see that it comes in a pouch because usually, only high-end brand palettes come in those. I think the packaging and the addition of the pouch make it a pretty gift too.

The palette itself has the same beige shade with champagne gold details. It is made of plastic with a matte, rubber surface. I have a love/hate relationship with these kinds of packaging. It looks beautiful but the rubber surface gets dirty very quickly. The palette is styled like an old wallet/purse. I see what they’re trying to do making it look vintage and I usually like out-of-the-box packaging but to me personally, this looks on the cheap side, especially because the palette does not feel heavy. It’s not something for me but some people might love it.

Opening the palette reveals a large mirror on top and five neutral eyeshadow shades with a duel-ended brush. The brush has synthetic hairs, one side for packing the color and one for blending. The hairs actually feel soft and don’t irritate my lid however, I didn’t use this brush because it is too small for my liking. It might be an okay brush for touch-ups when you go out with the palette but for initial application, I would definitely suggest to use your own brushes to make it easier.

The Makeup Revolution Renaissance Palette Day contains one frosted eyeshadow (left) and four matte eyeshadows. The shades really remind me of the Urban Decay Naked Basics Palette. All shadows feel extremely soft and finely milled. They swatch beautifully on my arm but I feel like they’re not really buttery, so fade a bit and tend to get patchy on oily lids. I would definitely suggest to use a good sticky primer/base so that the colors apply evenly.

For this look, I used the 1st shade (the shimmery one) as a browbone and inner corner highlight, the 2nd shade as an overall base color and in the inner 3rd of the eyelid, the 3rd shade as a transition shade , the 4th shade on 2/3rd of the outer lid and the 5th shade on the outer V/crease.

I think the Makeup Revolution Renaissance Palette Day is a nice, basic palette to have, especially for a drugstore brand. The colors work well with each other, looking a tiny bit patchy up close but looks beautiful from a normal range. Like I mentioned before, the colors tend to fade slightly but it is easy to build up and to create a simple, day-time look using all the colors. It can also serve as a beautiful gift for someone who likes vintage looking products.

The Makeup Revolution Renaissance Palette Day is available for €12,99 Euro at selected Etos stores and BeautyLala.com.
