NYX Professional Makeup In Your Element Fire Collection Review

NYX Professional Makeup In Your Element Fire

NYX Professional Makeup has launched a Limited Edition collection named In Your Element, featuring Lipsticks and Eye Shadow & Pigment Palettes with colors inspired by the elements like Earth, Fire, Wind, Water, (Heart, Go Planet!). Heart isn’t a part of the collection but just Google ‘Captain Planet’ if you don’t get it. 😉 For this post, I’m going to review the NYX Professional Makeup In Your Element Fire Collection.

NYX Professional Makeup In Your Element Fire Eye Shadow & Pigment Palette

The NYX Professional Makeup In Your Element Fire Eye Shadow & Pigment Palette (€31,60 Euro/12x 1,41 gr) has a Limited Edition packaging, which looks like fireworks. It has a really nice weight to it and feels luxurious and sturdy. The back of the box shows images of shades inside the palette (the size of the pans inside the palette are bigger than displayed) while the palette itself only shows the numbers with the ingredients list. There’s something that bothers me with the explanation on the back of the palette. I’m not sure what the icons mean but it does look like that the Pigments inside the palette are only safe to be used on the face and not on the eyes. Pigment on my eyes without any problems but be aware of that if you are sensitive around your eye area.

Opening the NYX Professional Makeup In Your Element Fire Eye Shadow & Pigment Palette reveals a big mirror and twelve pans containing the Eyeshadows and Pigments. There are seven Eyeshadows and five Pigments inside the palette.

The Eyeshadows inside the palette are 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 11 so the Pigments are 4, 7, 9, 10, 12. I can understand why the In Your Element palettes are in a way more expensive price range that we’re used to when it comes to NYX Professional Makeup products, because these are insanely good, much better than the quality that I’m used to with their brand!  Most of the products are super soft and pigmented. Some of them look a bit weird in the swatches like 8 but I can assure you that this shade is also really pigmented and not patchy. Other colors like are a bit rougher but you see that more often in colors like that, I’ve never seen a red pigment that is that intensely red and pigmented!

For this eyelook, I used 4 (transition shade) 10 (crease, inner and outer 3rd of the lid and bottom lid) and 6 (center of the upper lid). Using only these three shades created this gorgeous halo eyelook. There are still so many different ways to be able to create many different eyelooks using this palette. The shade range is beautiful and I really wish the NYX Professional Makeup In Your Element Fire Eye Shadow & Pigment Palette wasn’t Limited Edition, because I think it would make a great addition to the permanent collection, especially looking at the quality and how much work they’ve done with the packaging and such.

NYX Professional Makeup In Your Element Fire Lipsticks

The NYX Professional Makeup In Your Element Fire contains three Lipsticks in the collection (4 gr each) has the Limited Edition packaging as the palette on the lipstick boxes. The shade names with a similar color on the background is displayed on the top of the box. I didn’t receive any PR information regarding the price so comparing palette’s price to the US listings, I think these lipsticks are around ~€10 Euro each.

The NYX Professional Makeup In Your Element Fire Lipsticks themselves also have a Limited Edition tube, glossy black with holographic details and has a magnetized part that holds the top in place. I always love magnetized opening/closure parts in makeup, I think it makes them feel more luxurious.

The shades of the  NYX Professional Makeup In Your Element Fire Lipsticks are Matte Mauve, Matte Red and Glossy Black. As you can see, the finish is already described in the name. I think both Matte lipsticks swatch evenly and pigmented, the Glossy Black is gives more of a problem but I’m not sure if this one is meant to be fully opaque, since it has a glossy finish. All of the lipsticks are unscented but because of that, these do have an unpleasant taste and an ‘unscented smell’, smelling/tasting like crayons with the Glossy Black shade giving off the strongest scent/taste.

NYX Professional Makeup In Your Element Fire Lipstick in Matte Mauve is described as a “Matte Muted Brick Red” shade with a matte finish. I personally do not consider this as a matte lipstick but more like a creme because there’s still quite some shine to it. The shade glides easily onto the lips and applies evenly. The formula feels really smooth and comfortable and I think the shade is absolutely beautiful, a perfect everyday shade!

NYX Professional Makeup In Your Element Fire Lipstick in Matte Red is described as a “Matte Red with a Blue Undertone” shade with a matte finish. I didn’t look at the description of the shades before writing this review, and this is exactly my thoughts! Reds with a blue undertone are my favorite type of red lipsticks and this is a gorgeous example. Easy to apply and fully opaque. This looks slightly more matte than the other shade but I still don’t consider this as a matte finish, which makes it more comfortable and hydrating. That said, I do think you will need to apply a lip liner to prevent bleeding but overall, this is a beautiful and comfortable classic red lipstick.

NYX Professional Makeup In Your Element Fire Lipstick in Glossy Black is just simply described as a “Glossy Black” shade. I don’t really like this lipstick. I don’t think it looks good when it’s not fully opaque so it does take some layers for full opacity. When it does reach that level, it looks really patchy as soon as you touch your lips with anything like rubbing the together. I think this lipstick would benefit majorly using a black pencil liner as a base, because I do like the glossy black lip look but it isn’t wearable on it’s own.

I do like both the Matte Mauve and Matte Red shades of the NYX Professional Makeup In Your Element Fire Lipsticks. The only thing that would prevent me from purchasing these shades are the ‘unscented scent’ and taste, which is a shame because they’re beautiful! If NYX Professional Makeup ever decide to make these permanent, I would definitely recommend them to add a scent, especially for the higher price range because I think these are more expensive than any other lip product that they offer. At least the glosses have amazing scents so I know they can do it.

Unfortunately, I’ve received these products via PR at the end of December and was already available for some time, so I think the NYX Professional Makeup In Your Element Fire Collection is completely sold out. It might be that some other In Your Element collections are still available (and on sale!). I’m not a huge fan of these lipstick but if the quality of the other palettes is as good as the Fire version, I would definitely suggest to stop by the NYX Professional Makeup Stores in Amsterdam and Rotterdam when you’re around, because the In Your Element Palettes are absolutely worth checking out!
