Urban Decay has collaborated with the cruelty-free beauty influencer Kristen Leanne, known for her use of bright colors, glitters, tattoo’s and her bubbly personality. She is a fighter for self-expression and her down-to-earth character makes her and Urban Decay a perfect combination, creating a unique and colorful collection for Spring 2018, consisting of two Eyeshadow Palettes, a Highlighter Palette and three Vice Lipsticks. From the collection, I’ve received the Urban Decay x Kristen Leanne Beauty Beam Highlight Palette and two of the Vice Lipsticks in Bun Bun and Spellbound, which I’m going to review for you today.
Urban Decay x Kristen Leanne Beauty Beam Highlighter Palette
Kristen Leanne loves highlighter almost as much as she loves Mexican food. She wanted to create the ultimate highlighter palette, which became the Urban Decay x Kristen Leanne Beauty Beam Highlight Palette (€37,00 Euro/10,98 gr). The palette comes in a plastic, transparent pink sleeve which shows the logo of the collection in front with an image of the highlighter shades on the back.
The Urban Decay x Kristen Leanne Beauty Beam Highlight Palette packaging is made of thick cardboard, is lightweight but feels nice and sturdy. It has a pink metallic color with stripes that shift as it moves. I wish I could show you this in picture because it looks absolutely stunning in real life. Urban Decay is always on point with its packaging and this is no exception, I can keep staring at it all day!
The Urban Decay x Kristen Leanne Beauty Beam Highlight Palette is held closed by a magnet, opening the palette reveals a mirror with Stay Gold written in the right corner. The edges of the pallete has a pink holographic bubbles print. The highlighter consists of three different shades, all held in one big pan. There is a reason behind them being in one big pan, you can easily mix the different shades together for a customized shade by swirling your brush from one shade to another.
The highlighter shades inside the Urban Decay x Kristen Leanne Beauty Beam Highlight Palette all feel silky smooth and buttery. They have a strong, dewy highlighting effect and do not contain any chunky glitters. The highlighters have a nice shade range so I think these can be used for a variety of skintones, because you can also use these as eyeshadows if a shade is too light or dark of your skin, plus you can mix them as well!
Here is a before/after using the palette. I used the right shade as a highlighter on my cheeks, nose bridge and cupids bow and the middle shade as an inner corner highlight on my eyes. As you can see, these make huge difference and I’m obsessed with the effect. I love glossy looking highlight and this definitely makes my cheeks look really dewy and beaming.
I really think Urban Decay x Kristen Leanne Beauty Beam Highlight Palette contains stunning highlighters with a beautiful quality. They’re buildable and easy to apply. I love the shade range because my skintone can change dramatically depending on the Season, so I definitely see myself mixing these shades. I’m also a sucker for packaging so grabbing this palette is also a joy for the eyes.
Urban Decay x Kristen Leanne Vice Lipsticks in Bun Bun and Spellbound
Kristen Leanne had a ton of shades in mind for her Vice Lipsticks, but since Urban Decay wasn’t able to create all of them, they helped her choose her must-have shades. There are three shades in the collection, where I received two of them; Bun Bun and Spellbound (€19,90 Euro/3,4 gr each). These come in a Limited Edition neon pink, holographic packaging. Again, I wish I could show you the awesomeness of the rainbow holo effect in picture!
Like the regular Vice Lipsticks, the tube looks a bullet shell and has the Urban Decay initials engraved on the lipstick bullet itself. The cool thing about the Urban Decay x Kristen Leanne Vice Lipsticks is that the caps have a bright, neon-pink color and has Kristens logo on the tube. Love these small details for Limited Edition packaging!
The Urban Decay x Kristen Leanne Vice Lipsticks come in different finishes. Bun Bun (left) has a Comfort Matte finish, being slightly more creamy than Spellbound (right), having a Mega Matte finish. Either way, both of the shads are highly pigmented and swatch evenly. Both have no added fragrance as well, but I can notice a “raw materials” scent, which smells a bit like crayons.
Urban Decay x Kristen Leanne Vice Lipstick in Bun Bun
The Urban Decay x Kristen Leanne Vice Lipstick in Bun Bun is a Nude shade with a Comfort Matte finish. Bun Bun is the nickname of Kristen Leannes bunny named Brixton. I love that she named a shade after one of her pets, because I would definitely do the same thing! The shade is absolutely beautiful as well. It applies evenly and feels super comfortable. I still think that the Comfort Matte finish isn’t really matte but either way, it looks amazing. The color is quite neutral in my opinion so I think you can pair this with tons of different looks. It’s at least a perfect nude shade on my skintone!
Urban Decay x Kristen Leanne Vice Lipstick in Spellbound
The Urban Decay x Kristen Leanne Vice Lipstick in Spellbound is a Deep Purple shade with a Mega Matte finish. I’m really impressed by this shade because normally, dark purple shades are extremely patchy and you have to use a lip pencil as a base to make it look good. This one is a total shocker because it applied evenly in one go! I don’t think I’ve seen any brand pull this off before, even from Urban Decay themselves (see this review for another purple Vice Lipstick shade)! The lipstick was slightly pulling on my lips but it wasn’t any problem for the application. It also still feels comfortable for a matte shade so I’m perfectly happy with it! The shade is very bold and edgy, which I love to wear during the Winter season.
I didn’t know Kristen Leanne before this collaboration but now, I’m a total fan! The products that I was able to try out from the Urban Decay x Kristen Leanne Spring 2018 Collection are absolutely stunning. I think she definitely knew what beauty junkies like her and me would want to see in a collection. From packaging to the product itself, everything is of high quality and a breeze to use. I think my favorites are the Beauty Beam Highlight Palette and the Vice Lipstick in Bun Bun, but I do have to give Spellbound credits, having such a great formula for a dark purple shade!
The Limited Edition Urban Decay x Kristen Leanne Spring 2018 Collection is available online at UrbanDecay.nl, HudsonsBay.nl and IciParisXL.nl. They’re also available in selected Ici Paris XL stores and at selected Hudsons Bay warehouses.
