OPI has released a new collection called Washington DC, the capitol of the United States of America and the city where the U.S. President lives. This is period of the year is also the time for the new President election. Therefore, this collection was inspired by everything around the Presidency. OPI Washington DC even has the actress Kerry Washington, known for her role in the serie Scandal as the face for this collection. The City of Washington DC lies very close to my heart. It was the first city I’ve ever visited in the U.S. for work last year, which was a dream that came true since I always wanted to go to the U.S.. Therefore, I’m really excited to show you some of the shades of the OPI Washington DC Collection.
The OPI Washington DC Collection consists of twelve nail polish shades. There are also three other shades, only available in a limited edition Mini Pack. For this review, I received six shades, which are Pale to the Chief, Never a Dulles Moment, Yank My Doodle, Madam President, Kerry Blossom and Suzi – the First Lady of Nails. These are full-sized and come in the regular OPI bottle which are transparent with black details, containing 15 mL of Nail Polish per bottle.
OPI Pale to the Chief
OPI Pale to the Chief is a soft, Dusty Nude with a Creme finish and a hint of Frost. I really love how this shade compliments my skintone. For me, it’s the perfect everyday nude. The formula is thin, applies a bit streaky but dries quickly. Two coats might be fine if you’re really careful but I think you will need three to even everything out, like I did for the swatches.
OPI Never a Dulles Moment
OPI Never a Dulles Moment is a Mustard Yellow with a Creme finish. I really love Yellow shades and this one really reminds me of the Fall season. The formula is thin and unfortunately also applies a bit streaky but dries quickly. You will definitely need three coats like I have for the swatches to make everything even and opaque.
OPI Yank My Doodle
OPI Yank My Doodle is a Reddish Copper with a Creme finish. This is another shade that just screams Fall season to me. The formula is thin, dries quickly and applies easy. I needed two coats for full opacity.
OPI Madam President
OPI Madam President is a Royal Red with a hint of Fuschia and a Creme finish. This is a beautiful, rich and vibrant shade. The formula of this shade is really perfect. Thin, dries quickly and is really opaque. It applies super easy and even, one coat should be fine but you do see a really subtle difference between the pink/white part of your nails so it’s not fully opaque after one coat. I used two coats in the swatches.
OPI Kerry Blossom
OPI Kerry Blossom is a Dark Plum with a Creme finish. A really bold and vampy shade, in my opinion great for both Fall and Winter. The formula of this shade also leans a bit towards a jelly finish. The formula is slightly thicker but still on thin side, dries quickly and is a tiny bit streaky. If you’re careful, two coats should be enough for full opacity, like I have done with the swatches. This shade is exclusively available in the Limited Edition Pack.
OPI Suzi – the First Lady of Nails
OPI Suzi – the First Lady of Nails is an Olive Green with a Creme finish. I keep repeating myself but I do think that OPI has done a great job with the shades, because this one also screams fall/winter to me. The formula is almost the same as Kerry Blossom without the jelly part. Slightly thicker but still on thin side, dries quickly and is a tiny bit streaky. Two coats should be enough for full opacity if you’re careful\.
OPI Washington DC is a beautiful collection with lots of variety in shades, while still being perfect for Fall/Winter. I think that overall, the shades perform well. I din’t find any huge problems other than the streaky-ness in the lighter shades, which is kind of normal since this usually happens with lighter shades. Since all of these dry quickly, I don’t mind putting on three coats but most of the medium to dark shades only need two. My favorite shade is Never a Dulles Moment.
The OPI Washington DC Collection is available at the Douglas stores and Douglas.nl. You can also check out the OPI Sales Locator for other store locations. The full-sized Nail Polishes are €14,95 each. The Limited Edition Mini Pack, which has three Limited shades (3.75 mL each), including Kerry Blossom is available for €17,95.
