Kiehl’s Calendula Collection Review

Kiehl's Calendula Collection Review

Calendula is a flower that has also been used as a medicinal herb for centuries because of its soothing properties. Since the 1960’s, Kiehl’s has been using Calendula Petals as one of their ingredients for their skincare to create products that help the skin look smooth and radiant. A recent addition to the brands Calendula Collection is the Calendula Serum-Infused Water Cream, described as a multi-miracle product. I’m going to review the entire Kiehl’s Calendula Collection in today’s post.

Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash

Kiehl's Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash Review Kiehl's Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash

The Kiehl’s Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash (€29,50 Euro/230 mL) is described as a highly effective foaming cleanser that replenishes and soothes skin. The product is infused with Calendula and Glycerin which activates with water to create a dense foam, gently lifting away impurities without over-drying or stripping the skin. It is supposed to help skin look and feel instantly refreshed and vitalized, recommended for normal and oily skin.

The full ingredients list is as follows:
Aqua/Water, Sodium Cocoyl Glycinate, Coco-Betaine, Glycerin, Acrylates Copolymer, Sodium Chloride, Phenoxyethanol, Citrus Limon Peel Oil/Lemon Peel Oil, Limonene, Sodium Hydroxide, Tetrasodium EDTA, Propylene Glycol, Geranium Maculatum Oil, Citral, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Cymbopogon Schoenanthus Oil, Artemisia Absinthium Extract, Citric Acid.

Kiehl's Calendula Collection

To use the Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash, dampen face and hands with warm water, apply the cleanser into hands and mix to create a lather, massage lather onto the skin with a gentle circular motion while avoiding direct contact with the eyes, rise with lukewarm water and pat try with a soft towel.

The product feels like a thick, soapy gel and nicely foams and easily distributes on my face. It has a pleasant and subtle citrus scent. Washing off the product makes my skin feel clean and free of oils, without making my skin feel dry. I really enjoy using this cleanser because it doesn’t feel irritating on the skin or eyes at all and makes my skin feel cleansed, soft and smooth.

Calendula Herbal-Extract Toner

Kiehl's Calendula Herbal-Extract Toner Review Kiehl's Calendula Herbal-Extract Toner

The Kiehl’s Calendula Herbal-Extract Toner (€38,50 Euro/250 mL) is described as an effective, alcohol-free facial toner that gently cleanse, refresh and soothes skin. The product is formulated with hand-picked Calendula Petals, Burdock Root Extract and Allantoin which each have a soothing effect. The toner is recommended for normal and oily skin, but is also suitable for sensitive skin.

The full ingredients list is as follows:
Aqua/Water, Propylene Glycol, Pentylene Glycol, Methylparaben, Disodium EDTA, Arctium Lappa Extract/Arctium Lappa Root Extract, Calendula Officinalis Extract/Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Hydrolyzed Corn Starch, Allantoin, Hedera Helix Extract – Ivy Leaf/Stem Extract, Althaea Officinalis/Althaea Officinalis Root Extract.

To use the Calendula Herbal-Extract Toner after cleansing the skin, apply the toner on a cotton pad and smooth skin in areas where needed while avoiding the eye area. Sometimes, a piece of Calendula Petal drops on the cotton pad, which is normal and can be applied as usual. This toner can be applied day and/or night.

I usually avoid (alcohol-based) toners because they make my skin feel dry. Applying this toner on my entire face makes my skin feel refreshed, soft and smooth. My skin also feels tacky after use, it is a shame that a moisturizer needs to be applied afterward, because this would be a perfect base for foundation! I don’t know what Calendula smells like but this product has a sweet, honey-like scent. I can see why this product is a customer-favorite. It really feels nice and gentle on the skin while giving a beautiful smooth feeling effect. This product is definitely my favorite of the Kiehl’s Calendula collection.

Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydration Masque

The Kiehl’s Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydration Masque (€46,00 Euro/100 mL) is described as a hydrating and soothing face mask that helps revitalize and moisturize skin, making it feel soft, smooth and refreshed. The product is infused with Calendula and Aloe Vera which hydrates and soothes the skin while helping reduce signs of distress. This face mask is suitable for all skin types.

The full ingredients list is as follows:
AQUA / WATER, GLYCERIN, ALOE BARBADENSIS LEAF JUICE, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, PPG-26-BUTETH-26, PEG-40 HYDROGENATED CASTOR OIL, GLYCERYL ACRYLATE/ACRYLIC ACID COPOLYMER, CARBOMER, CALENDULA, OFFICINALIS FLOWER, PHENOXYETHANOL, LIMONENE, CALENDULA OFFICINALIS FLOWER EXTRACT, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, CITRUS LIMON PEEL OIL / LEMON PEEL OIL, PAEONIA SUFFRUTICOSA ROOT EXTRACT, SCUTELLARIA BAICALENSIS ROOT EXTRACT, SODIUM HYDROXIDE, CITRUS AURANTIUM DULCIS (ORANGE) PEEL OIL, TOCOPHERYL ACETATE, CASSIA ANGUSTIFOLIA SEED POLYSACCHARIDE, PELARGONIUM GRAVEOLENS, FLOWER OIL, ANTHEMIS NOBILIS FLOWER OIL, CITRAL, CITRIC ACID, POTASSIUM SORBATE, ARTEMISIA ABSINTHIUM EXTRACT, SODIUM BENZOATE, TOCOPHEROL.

To use the Calendula & Aloe Soothing Hydration Masque, apply a visible layer onto clean skin while avoiding the eye area and leave on for 5 minutes. Rinse with warm water while massaging gently in a circular motion and pat try using a soft towel. The product is recommended to use three times per week.

Applying the face mask feels really fresh on my skin and I notice a herbal, citrus-y scent. The face mask feels a bit tingly on my cheek area, which is sensitive but doesn’t feel irritating. After rinsing of the mask, my skin feels really clean, smooth and soft. I do have to say that my cheek looks a bit irritated and red, which is one of the reasons I don’t like this face mask because it doesn’t feel soothing to me at all. Another reason is that even though my skin feels hydrated, it also feels stripped of oils, which is something I don’t prefer in a mask. If you do prefer a clean feeling effect in a face mask, you will probably love this one.

Calendula Serum-Inflused Water Cream

Kiehl's Calendula Serum-Infused Water Cream Review Kiehl's Calendula Serum-Infused Water Cream Review

The Kiehl’s Calendula Serum-Infused Water Cream (€48,00 Euro/50 mL) is a new product to the Calendula collection, described as a multi-miracle water cream. The product is inspired by the Calendula Herbal-Extract Toner, infused with Calendula Serum that contains concentrated Calendula Flower Extract combined with hundreds of Micronized Calendula Petals.

The water cream is supposed to visibly even skin tone and boost radiance in 1 week, help visibly reduce redness in two weeks, improve uneven texture, dull skin, dry fine lines and soften skin with a lasting 24-hour hydration. This face moisturizer is suitable for normal, oily and combination skin.

The full ingredients list is as follows:
Aqua/Water, Dimethicone, Glycerin, Propylene Glycol, Propanediol, Panthenol, Dimethicone/ PEG-10/15 Crosspolymer, Bisabolol, Diisopropyl Sebacate, Sodium Chloride, Phenoxyethanol, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Chlorphenesin, Citrus Limon Peel Oil/Lemon Peel Oil, Sodium Citrate, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Limonene, PEG-10 Dimethicone, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Calendula Officinalis Flower, Citric Acid, Dipropylene Glycol, Geranium Maculatum Oil, Chamomilla Recutita Flower Oil/Matricaria Flower Oil, Citral, Citronellol, Geraniol, Farnesol, Linalool, Tocopherol, Cymbopogon Schoenanthus Oil, Artemisia Absinthium Extract.

To use the Calendula Serum-Infused Water Cream after cleanser, toner and serum, apply a pea-sized amount with clean fingertips onto the skin while avoiding contact with the eyes. This product can be applied day and/or night.

The water cream has a lightweight, gel consistency and immediately distributes all over the skin when massaging, so a pea-sized amount is definitely enough. My skin feels soothed, hydrated and soft after application. I’ve gotten my skin tested at the Kiehl’s Flagship Store in Amsterdam and found out that during the Summer season, my skin is normal to combination on my T-zone with a lack of hydration. Interestingly, I feel like the water cream keeps the oils more under control while still giving enough hydration. This product is exactly recommended for my skin type, which is why I’m really impressed by the effect it gives. I really do feel that my skin looks more even with less redness, improved in texture looking smoother and more radiant.

Kiehl's Calendula Collection Review

Since the products of the Kiehl’s Calendula Collection are mostly recommended for a normal to oily skin type (which is my current skin type), I can definitely tell it works great for me but it doesn’t reduce acne for me personally, which I feel is the only downside. My skin feels very soft, hydrated and smooth and I would highly suggest to try them out yourself if you have the same skin type. If you’re not sure what your skin type is, you can get tested at the Kiehl’s Flagship Stores.

The products of the Kiehl’s Calendula Collection are available at Kiehls.nl, the Kiehls booths at several locations at selected De Bijenkorf warehouses and their Kiehl’s Flagship Stores (find your nearest store location here).

Ik ben de collectie ook aan het testen, maar helaas reageert mijn huid heel sterk op de toner! Begint ontzettend te prikkelen en te branden. Facewash vind ik wel heel fijn!
