Jeffree Star Cosmetics x Manny MUA Collaboration

Jeffree Star Cosmetics x Manny MUA Collaboration

Youtuber MannyMUA has a brand new collaboration, now with Jeffree Star Cosmetics. They have created a Skin Frost shade Eclipse and two Velour Liquid Lipsticks shades named Daddy and I’m Shook. I really like both Manny and products from Jeffree Star Cosmetics, so I purchased all three products, which I’m going to review down below.

Manny and Jeffree Star are best friends, so a collaboration was definitely expected. This is the first collaboration that Jeffree Star Cosmetics has done, but Manny already has a few under it’s belt with brands such as Make-up Geek and Ofra. Reviews of those collaborations can be found here and here. For this review, I’m going to start with the Skin Frost in Eclipse.

Jeffree Star Cosmetics Skin Frost in Eclipse

The Jeffree Star Cosmetics Skin Frost in Eclipse (€30,00 Euro/15 gr) comes in a beautiful black cardboard box with a pattern that has all kinds of squares on it, the squares shift and look really cool when moving the box around. The text on the box is in white while the logo is silver, which also has a sort of 3-D embossed effect. The shade name and color is described on top. You can definitely see that there has been a lot of care and thought when it comes to the packaging. It looks amazing and I’m definitely obsessed by it.

The compact itself is made of a sturdy, plastic material. It is matte black and has the Jeffree Star Cosmetics logo on top with a holographic effect, pictures really don’t do it justice, it looks much more holographic in real life. The compact opens and closes with a clicking system.

When opening the compact, it reveals a mirror on top and the product itself. The compact is bigger than an average powder compact so you get quite a lot of product. The Jeffree Star Logo is pressed on the highlighter as well as a crescent moon, which is a part Manny‘s logo.

Here’s a swatch of the Jeffree Star Cosmetics Skin Frost in Eclipse. I really had to rub on hard on the product and push down on my skin twice to get this watch. I don’t own any other Skin Frosts but I wish I had for comparison, because I heard that the formula is quite soft and pigmented. This one however, is extremely hard and there isn’t much product coming off as I would expect. It might be a top layer thing because the more I tried, the more product came but I definitely expected a more softer formula and a much intenser swatch. The shade itself can be described as Icy Peach.

Here’s a before/after swatch of my face using the Jeffree Star Cosmetics Skin Frost in Eclipse. The highlighter definitely has a beautiful and intense metallic type of glow. There is some shimmer in there but it doesn’t look glittery, there isn’t any chunky glitter in the highlighter either. On my skintone, it looks very intense but it might be a bit too cool-toned for my taste.

I have mixed feelings about the Jeffree Star Cosmetics Skin Frost in Eclipse. Obsessed with the packaging but I’m not obsessed with the product itself. I would probably not have purchased it if it wasn’t a collab with Manny. It’s a unique shade but I don’t think this shade would be suitable for medium to dark skin types, but it would definitely look good on lighter skintones.

Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick in Daddy and I’m Shook

The Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipsticks in Daddy and I’m Shook (€20,95 Euro/5,6 mL each) come in a Limited Edition packaging. Instead of the regular pink box with metallic rose hold details, these lipsticks come in a black box with silver/white details. It has the same square pattern as the highlighter, which also has the crescent moon and Jeffree Star Cosmics logo and the shade names described on top.

The Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipsticks in Daddy and I’m Shook come in a transparent, plastic tube with a black top and holographic details. Again, it looks a thousand times more holographic in real life and again, I’m crazy obsessed with how beautiful the packaging looks like.

The cap has a “clicking” closure system, you can crew on the top and it “clicks” when it’s closed, so you’re always ensured that you’re lipstick is properly closed when storing it away. The wand itself it transparent and has doe doe-foot applicator with a curve in the middle. I immediately noticed that the applicator was a lot different compared to all the other Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipsticks. Normally, you get a very fluffy doe-foot applicator, which feels soft and comfortable. This one is a bit more harder and tickles slightly. Don’t know if this will be the standard wand from now on or if this is only done for this collaboration. Either way, I don’t like the wand as much compared to the original one.

.

Here are swatches of the Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks in Daddy (left) and I’m Shook (right). The shades are opaque and both have a thin and oily feeling formula. After drying, they are transfer and smudge-proof , which takes about a two to three minutes. Both shades do not have any noticeable scent, which is too bad because I love the Root Beer scent that some of the permanent shades have,

Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks in Daddy

The Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks in Daddy  is a Cool Toned Brown shade with a flat-matte finish. It is definitely a cool toned brown but not too cool to look make me look deceased. I think this is one of the most wearable cool toned browns I own. It’s not a shade that I would gravitate to though. It applies very easy and evenly but I kind of notice that the formula is a bit different compared to other shades that I own. I think own more than fifteen shades of the Velour Liquid Lipsticks, but this one is definitely the most drying of all of them. The shade also looks really drying on my lips. It is comfortable enough to wear but I normally like the formula way better when it comes to comfort. It does stay on my lips the entire day and only small touch-ups are needed after eating.

Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks in I’m Shook

The Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipsticks in I’m Shook is a Medium Toned Burned Coral with a flat-matte finish. I love this shade, it is not too bright and for me, a more softer version of a red type of shade to wear for Spring/Summer. This again applies very easy and evenly but has the same dry feeling as Daddy. This also means that it stays put all day with only small touch-ups needed.

For me, the Jeffree Star Cosmetics x Manny MUA Collaboration was kind of disappointing. They’re not bad, they’re just not what I would’ve expected in terms of quality. The packaging of the products is on point, I didn’t know the products can even look more beautiful than they normally are. Black is my favorite color and I’m obsessed with holo, so this combination is everything to me. However, I only love one of the three shades, which is I’m Shook.

Compared to what I own from the brand, I think they really downgraded the formula. I can’t compare the Skin Frost with the permanent ones but I have many other highlighters, and this one in the this price range doesn’t cut it for me. The Velour Liquid Lipstick formula is normally one of my favorite liquid lipsticks formula’s, but these two are so drying and completely different comfort wise. I just really wish that they would give the same attention to the formula’s of the products as they did with the packaging. If I knew this beforehand, I would’ve probably purchased I’m Shook only.

The Limited Edition Jeffree Star Cosmetics x Manny MUA Collection is available at BeautyBay.comAt this moment, the products are sold out but they will probably restock in the coming days/weeks. I would suggest to keep a close look on all the Instagram pages of the different stores.

Have you purchased anything from the Jeffree Star Cosmetics x Manny MUA Collection or are you planning to? Which product is your favorite?
