Lancôme L’Absolu Lacquer Review

Lancôme L'Absolu Lacquer Review

Lancôme L’Absolu Lacquer is the newest addition to the L’Absolu Collection, an innovative lip product that combines the comfort and shine of a gloss, the pigment of a lipstick and the lasting power of a stain. The lightweight formula consists of an emulsion of oils and water that is supposed to last for up to six hours. The lip gloss comes in 18 different shades, buildable from a subtle glossy tint to a vibrant and striking result. I’ve received three Lancôme L’Absolu Lacquer shades, which I’m going to review for you today.

The L’Absolu Lacquer comes in the standard Lancôme packaging, which is a glossy metallic, silver cardboard box with black details. The shade names are displayed on the top of the cardboard packaging. I’ve received the shades Gold For ItBe Unique and Not Afraid.

The tubes of the Lancôme L’Absolu Lacquer are made of plastic and have a black to transparant gradient so the product can be seen on the bottom of the tube. The tube has silver details like the Lancôme lettering and the logo on top. They have some weight to it so they feel and look luxurious. I love how simple and stunning it looks so I’m absolutely obsessed!

The tube holds 8 mL of product in total. Opening the tube reveals a thin, doe foot applicator, which is slightly slanted at the tip for an easy application.

Here are swatches of the Lancôme L’Absolu Lacquer in 500 Gold for It378 Be Unique and 489 Not Afraid. The formula of the Lancôme L’Absolu Lacquer is something that I’ve never experienced before. The product is thin but changes into something that is quite thick and goopy as soon it evaporates. I’m writing evaporate instead of drying because there’s also a noticeable alcohol type of smell coming off the product, which is masked by a subtle rose-y kind of scent, which I personally enjoy. I only notice the scent during application.

All shades are sheer, which is meant to be this way to provide customizable coverage. Because of that, the darker shades do look very patchy and streaky. If you would like a full coverage finish using these glosses, I would definitely suggest to use something else like a lip liner as a base, especially for the darker shades. For the swatches on my lips, I used two coats for all the shades.

L’Absolu Lacquer in Gold For It

The Lancôme L’Absolu Lacquer in Gold For It is a warm, Copper Gold shade with a glossy and shimmery finish. It’s a very unique shade, which I don’t find very pretty when it’s applied intense like I have on the picture. I think would look amazing with one sheer coat or combined with another shade as a base to give your lips a beautiful, warm sheen. This shade was easy to apply did not stain my lips.

L’Absolu Lacquer in Be Unique

The Lancôme L’Absolu Lacquer in Be Unique is a bright, Fuchsia shade with a glossy crème finish. I love this shade! It’s very feminine and bright. The first coat was easy to apply but the second needed some extra attention to keep everything looking even. Up close, the product still looks a tiny bit patchy but I don’t see it from a normal distance. This shade did stain my lips leaving a similar color, so this one is definitely long-lasting.

L’Absolu Lacquer in Not Afraid

The Lancôme L’Absolu Lacquer in Not Afraid is a deep, Berry shade with a glossy crème finish. This shade looks a lot more cool toned in the tube but I think because it isn’t fully opaque, the color looks more warm toned on my pigmented lips. I do like how it looks but this is definitely a shade that would benefit a lot from a base color. This shade was very difficult to apply, because it can look uneven very quickly. You can see in the close up shot that the product looks uneven because it is settling into the small lines, making those areas look darker. This shade also stained my lips, leaving a lighter color with a similar hue.

The Lancôme L’Absolu Lacquer is definitely a unique and innovative product and to be honest, I’m still not sure if I like it or not. The shade range is great so there’s a color available for everyone’s taste, but the formula is something that you would probably love or hate. I absolutely love the glossy finish but I do think that the darker colors look better sheer or with a base.

For example, Not Afraid cannot be touched or moved after it has been applied with several coats because if you do decide to rub your lips together, it will look awfully patchy. I don’t find the formula to be lightweight either, I can feel the product sitting on my lips the entire time. I can’t really rub my lips together either because the formula is so thick. It does feel very hydrating but the thickness causes a weird feeling that I just can’t really get used to.

I do think that you should test and apply the Lancôme L’Absolu Lacquer in store if possible, because the formula is so unique that you have to feel it for yourself.
