My Summer proof make-up tips

Helloooooo Summer! The nice sunny weather has finally decided to show up in the Netherlands. As far as the weather predictions go, it will become very Sunny with temperatures around 30°C for the next coming days.  I love Summer however, make-up does not really go well in this heat. I usually don’t wear much make-up during the very hot days but if I do, I try to use lightweight and water-resistant make-up as much as possible. Here are my Summer proof make-up tips. I will go step-by-step from the base to finish.

Primers

To keep your make-up from sliding all over the place, you will need a good base. Primers can help with Foundation or BB creams to stay put for a longer period. Find non-oil based primers like the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water. This primer feels very thin and leaves a nice thin non-greasy layer when applied to the skin. Pores will also get bigger when it gets warmer. If you want to hide them, I  would suggest to use the Smashbox Photo Finish Pore Minimizing Primer on the areas that you want to mask, since this primer has a slight greasy/silicone feel to it. You can get these primers at Parfumerie Douglas.

Foundation, BB Cream and Concealer

I would not suggest to wear a full coverage foundation during the Summer heat. This will feel very heavy and uncomfortable on the skin. Instead, try a foundation with a lighter coverage like the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. This sheer-to-medium coverage foundation is very light-weight, looks and feels like a second skin, only better. Be aware that the foundation does not provide SPF, so use a moisturizer that has SPF or sunscreen before using this. You can also use a BB cream instead of foundation. Usually, BB creams already contain SPF, like the Estée Lauder Daywear BB Cream. This has a surprisingly good coverage for a BB cream, sheer to medium, is suitable for all skintypes and has an SPF of 35. If you want extra coverage on certain spots, I would suggest to use a lightweight concealer like the Urban Decay Naked Skin concealer. This concealer looks very natural while still giving nice concealing effect. The Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation is available at the Bijenkorf warehouse. You can also get the Estée Lauder Daywear BB Cream at the Bijenkorf but also at (web)stores like Estée Lauder, Parfumerie Douglas and Ici Paris XL. The Urban Decay Naked Concealer is available online at Ici Paris XL.

Finishing Powders

Matte (translucent) setting powders can look flat and unnatural very quickly in bright daylight. Try a sheer finishing powder that has some shimmer instead. As you can see from the picture, I am very fond of using these types of powders. Finishing powders like the Guerlain Météorites and Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders makes your skin look radiant, like you have a beautiful glow from within and makes your skintone more even with a silky finish. You can get the  Guerlain Météorites at Ici Paris XL and Parfumerie Douglas. It is also available in a compact version. The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders are available at Sephora.com.

Eyebrow Make-up

The last thing that you want is that your on fleek eyebrows will start to melt off! The Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade is waterproof and will make sure that the colour will stay in place. You can also use a powdery product like an eyeshadow with the same colour on top to let it really stay in place. To keep the eyebrow hairs in place, use the Anastasia Brow Gel. I have tried many Eyebrow gels and this is the only product that assures that the hairs stay in place. I will have an in-depth review about this product in the future. The Anastasia Brow products are available at Parfumerie Douglas and the Anastasia Beverly Hills webstore.

Eye Make-up

Keep the eyes to a minimum. If you want to use eyeshadow, be sure to prime first. Use the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion to help prevent the eyeshadow from creasing. You can also use this product by itself to make your eyelid look less greasy. The MAC Pro Longwear Cream Eyeshadow is a personal favorite and lifesaver. Hot weather or not, my eyelids are very greasy. After applying this product, it will not move for the entire day. It is beautiful by itself but also a very good base before applying eyeshadow. It is available in many different colours. For eyeshadow, it is very nice to use gold and bronze colours, which is very suitable for a sun-tanned look. The Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette has some gorgeous warm brown, gold and bronze eyeshadow colours. If you find that your mascara transfers to your lids, try to use a waterproof mascara. For me, the MAC Extended Play Gigablack Lash Mascara works very well for the undereye lashes. I’ve also seen products like the Anastasia Lash Genius, which you can apply after your mascara to make it waterproof. I haven’t tried this though! Maybe a good product to review? Let me know if you would like that. The Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion is available at Ici Paris XL (webstore only). The MAC Pro Longwear Cream Eyeshadow and the MAC Extended Play Gigablack Lash Mascara are available MAC Cosmetics. The Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette is available at Sephora.com.

Blush, Bronzer and Highlighter

For blush and bronzer, I would suggest the same as the Finishing Powders. Use blushes like the Milani Luminoso Baked Powder Blush or the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush that give you a radiant flushed look.  If you want to use bronzer, try the Anastasia Illumin8 Bronzer to warm up your face and give it a natural sun-kissed glow. If you want a more in-your-face all-over bronzed glow, I would suggest to use the Too Faced Pink Leopard Blushing Bronzer. For an intense eye-catching highlight, try Mary-Lou Manizer by The Balm. Best… Highlighter.. EVER. It gives such a beautiful and intense glow, which is especially beautiful and noticeable in direct sunlight. The Milani Luminoso Baked Powder Blush and Mary-Lou Manizer by The Balm are available at The Makeup Spot. The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush and Too Faced Pink Leopard Blushing Bronzer are available at Sephora.comAnastasia Illumin8 Bronzer is available at Parfumerie Douglas and the Anastasia Beverly Hills webstore.

Make-up Setting Spray

To increase the longevity of your make-up, use a make-up setting spray like the MAC Prep+Prime Fix+ or the Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray. The MAC Fix+ gives a more dewy finish compared to the Urban Decay Setting Spray, so I would suggest to try the Urban Decay if you have more of an oily skin or if you want to have a more satin type of finish than dewy. The MAC Prep+Prime Fix+ is available at MAC Cosmetics. The Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray is available at Ici Paris XL (webstore only).

Lipsticks

And finally, lipsticks. I personally think that there isn’t a certain type of lipstick that you need to wear during the summer heat. You can use anything; nude lipsticks, shimmery lipglosses, bright coloured lipsticks to a lipbalm only. On the picture, you see a selection of my favorite lipsticks that I like to use during the summertime; MAC Faux, Too Faced Melted Lipstick in Fig, Kat von D Liquid Lipstick in Berlin  a Lipsmacker Lipbalm in Vanilla Coconut and the Dior Addict Gloss #122.

Let me know if you want a in-depth review on any of these products. I hope these tips will help you with your make-up application during the hot Summer days. These tips work for well me however, this doesn’t say it will work out for your skin. If you have any other tips. Please feel free to share them in the comments below!

Cheers,

Lariesa
