NARS Highlighting Powder Collection Review

NARS introduces a collection Highlighting Powders with their new Seamless Glow Technology formula. This formula is a blend of sheer powders and pearls to create a second-skin with a satin, dewy finish for all skin types. I’ve received two shades of the NARS Highlighting Powder Collection, which I’m going to review in today’s post.

The NARS Highlighting Powder Collectioproducts come in a black, rectangular compact with white details. I didn’t receive any outer packaging but since these are permanent, I assume that these will come standard NARS cardboard box packaging as well. Like NARS is known for, the compact has matte finish and a velvet-y touch, which I have a love/hate relationship with. I love how it looks but it gets dirty really quickly.

Opening the compact reveals a mirror and the product pressed in a pan, containing 14 grams in total. There will be six different shades available in the new NARS Highlighting Powder Collection. The ones that I’ve received are Capri and Fort De France.

I’ve swatched the shades Capri (left) and Fort De France (right) on my arm. Capri is described as a Crushed Pink PearlFort De France as a Champagne shade. The powders feel silky but are pressed very hard in the pan, so there’s only a little product coming off when swirling my finger through it. I also notice that the top layer is “sealing” itself but it doesn’t effect the amount of product coming off (yet).

As you also can see from the swatches, the highlighters are very subtle and natural like they’re a part of my skin. The highlighter is more reflective and present when I move my arm. I’m not sure if I like this new formula though, I think I prefer the other formula from NARS like the one that the highlighter in the NARSissist Wanted I Cheek Palette (review here) has.

Here’s a before (left) and after (right) using the NARS Highlighting Powder in Capri on my cheekbones and the shade Fort De France on the bridge of my nose and cupids bow. I definitely can see a subtle change between the pictures, but I don’t really see a difference in  the two shades when applied on several areas like this.

The NARS Highlighting Powders have a finish exactly like the brand describes them, a natural, second skin texture. They can be build up but it keeps its natural, dewy finish. It looks very reflective and wet when it is packed on, which I love however, it might be too “soft” for those who love a strong looking highlight.

Even though I really like how it looks, I still find the formula a bit weird, because so little product comes off the pan. I feel like I have to scrape my brush to get some product on it. I’m used to the opposite, highlighters with a very strong pay-off that can be sheered out but either way, I love the natural finish of these products. I think if you’re someone like me who loves a natural no make-up, make-up look, you would definitely enjoy these new NARS Highlighting Powders.

The NARS Highlighting Powder Collection will be available starting from the 1st of April 2018 for €31,50 Euro at DeBijenkorf.nl and at the NARS counters at De Bijenkorf AmsterdamUtrecht and Rotterdam.

Do you prefer a soft and dewy finish or a more intense finish when it comes to highlighters?
